1-Portugal is the oldest nation-state in Europe
In 1139 became the kingdom pf Portugal until 1910 when it became a republic.
2- Portuguese is the official language of eight other countries outside of Portugal.
The result of the colonization is that Portuguese is spoken in Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Principe.
3-Portugal was the first European nation to abolish slavery.
4-Portugal was the 6th country in Europe to allow LGBT marriage in 2010.
5-The longest bridge in Europe is in Portugal- Vasco da Gama bridge crossing the Tagus River.
6- Cabo da Roca (Cape Roca) is the most western point of continental Europe.
7- The biggest wave ever surfed was in Portugal.
In February 2011, Hawaiian surfer Garrett McNamara created a new world record surfing a wave of 23.77m off the coast of Nazaré.
8-The Bertrand Bookshop in Lisbon is the world’s oldest bookshop.
